AUBURNDALE, FL (WFLA TV) -

A 49-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained after fireworks exploded inside her Polk County home.

Kathryn Flint of 226 Eaker St. in Auburndale passed away Saturday according to an Auburndale Police Department report.

On Friday, Flint was planning to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with fireworks, authorities said. She was hosting a family get-together and a number of people were in attendance.

Flint went inside her bedroom to retrieve some fireworks for the festivities when one suddenly went off. It sparked a fire that spread through her house, setting off the other fireworks.

The victim's son, Christopher, who was visiting from Winter Haven, pulled her out of the house through a window.

Flint was flown by helicopter to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of severe burns. Christopher Flint, who also was burned, was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Flint's pet dog perished in the fire.
