The man who escaped from custody in Jackson County is now back in custody after a high speed chase.

Officials say 32-Year-old Brandon Bodenhofer escaped as a deputy walked him from the court house to the detention center on June 16, 2014.

The inmate was not wearing handcuffs or shackles at the time.

Officers say they got a call Saturday night, July 5, 2014, reporting Bodenhofer driving a stolen car in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A deputy tried to stop him on south Main Street when the escapee took off at a high rate of speed.

Officers pursued for about two miles until Bodenhofer drove into a ditch and hit a barbed wire fence near the Clinton County line.

Police say he tried to run but they were able to capture him.

Bodenhofer faces a handful of charges including attempting to elude officers, reckless driving and speeding.

Officers say he also has a number of outstanding arrest warrants, most notably from his escape last month.

The Jackson County Sheriff has instituted a new police order because of the escape.

Inmates will now be handcuffed or shackled any time they are transferred to and from court.
