Lane closures are schedule to begin Monday on the Centennial Bridge, according to The Illinois Department of Transportation.

However, drivers crossing the bridge during the traditional morning and evening commute times will not see the closures.

All lanes will be open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

And when lanes are closed, there will always be at least one lane open in each direction, an IDOT spokesperson said.

The closures are part of $3.35 million worth of work set to happen on the bridge through early October. To complete it all, the bridge will have to shut down completely for a maximum of 35 days between July 28 and September 6.

And as lane closures are scheduled for the Centennial this week, drivers on the I-74 bridge will also see them Tuesday morning.

The DOT will shut down lanes of traffic in both directions there from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday as aerial speed check zones are installed.

Illinois State Police will be on hand to help with traffic control on the 74 bridge during that time.
