Police in Dixon, Ill. broke up what they described as a "large and out of control underage drinking party" over the weekend.

According to police, 40 minors were arrested, most between the ages of 18 and 20-years-old.

Police were called to the 200 block of West 1st Street just before midnight on Friday, July 4, 2014

They say around 80 people were in attendance and nearly all were from out of town.

The call came in after some partygoers were seen throwing bottles and urinating from the rooftop.

Police say 38 people were issued city ordinance violations for consumption of alcohol as a minor.

Two people were arrested on state charges for consumption of alcohol as a minor; 20-year-old Rafael Sosa and 20-year-old Bryan D. Gutierre, both of Sterling, Ill..

Gutierrez was also charged with two counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Police say it looked like the alcohol was brought to the party by the participants.

They say the owner of the building was not aware of the party and was cooperative with the police during the investigation.
