Patio Dining With Alcohol

Posted: Updated:
GALESBURG, IL – If you’re someone that likes to pair your meal with a glass of wine, you may be in luck. Galesburg City Council approved a new city ordinance Monday, allowing downtown restaurants with liquor licenses to serve alcohol on their outside patios.

Right now, restaurants with patio seating can only serve food outdoors. If you want to order a beer with your meal, you would have to dine inside.

Ryan Cardweol is a co-owner of the newest restaurant in Downtown Galesburg. He says their brewery, Iron Spike, will be taking full advantage of the new café ordinance. “We’re going to be able to extend the atmosphere that we have inside our building out here to the patio by adding up to 10 more tables.”

“We’re always looking for opportunities to improve the quality of life here in the city,” says Jeremy Karlin, 7th Ward Alderman of Galesburg. He is amongst the council who voted “yes” on the new ordinance. “People on nice days like today would like to sit outside, perhaps have a drink with their dinner so I think it’s going to be increased business for local restaurants.”

The city hopes a more vibrant culture will benefit local restaurants and bring revenue to the entire city.

Cardweol says, “Keep an eye out for Iron Spike to have a new patio and a number of businesses in Downtown Galesburg to have their patios out and let’s show the city that they made the right decision.”
