UPDATE:  Officials say there were six people on board the disabled Loop bus when it happened. A school bus, being used as a shuttle for the John Deere Classic, was also on the bridge at the time and passengers were transferred from the Loop bus to the school bus. They were taken to Moline.

While the fire department was called, the Loop bus did not catch on fire. Officials say oil spilled onto the hot engine block creating smoke.

ORIGINAL:

One of the Loop buses broke down Wednesday afternoon causing a backup on the I-74 bridge. The incident happened in the Illinois-bound lanes, close to the last Iowa exit.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the broken down bus after 1:00 p.m. Officials were able to transfer passengers to another bus and evacuate them from the bridge.

Fire crews were able the stop the vehicle from smoking. A tow truck arrived around 1:30 p.m. to tow the bus from the scene.
