Davenport Talks Alternative School Gym Project

Posted: Updated:

The Davenport school board talked about renovations at the new alternative school.

This upcoming school year, the alternative school is moving to a building on Marquette Street but it doesn't have a gym, so the district wants to build an activity center there.

It's a $4.2 million dollar project, paid for with local option sales tax money. There's also a multi-purpose stage there with storage and dressing rooms. There's also room for classrooms and an outdoor work area.

"Having a high school with that many kids, especially those that use a substandard gym where they use it very heavily. this thing can't stand a lot of delays it needs to be done as quickly as possible," board member Bill Sherwood said.

The board decided to build the center.
