Woman pleads guilty in Waukegan torture-slaying

Posted: Updated:

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A 24-year-old Waukegan woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for her part in the slaying of a man she mistakenly believed sexually assaulted her.

Nadia Palacios entered the plea Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court. She faces up to 60 years in prison in the 2011 killing in a Waukegan body shop.

She's the fourth person either convicted or pleading guilty in the death of 27-year-old David Campbell. Authorities say Campbell was tortured with a blowtorch and a hammer before he was killed by the group after he was accused of assaulting Palacios.

Police say the attackers may have mistaken Campbell for someone else. They're still looking for a fifth suspect believed to be involved in the slaying.

Palacios is due in court for sentencing Aug. 21.
