He is a former teacher who is especially intrigued by Civil War history.

Bruce Kindig has an impressive collection of Civil War art in his Davenport home.

Some of that art includes a painting of the Battle of Chicamauga which took place in Northern Georgia.

Kindig says it was the largest battle in the Western Theatre during the war. He calls it the greatest Confederate victory as well.

A Confederate Artillery Officer’s coat is also displayed in his collection. Bruce wore that during several reenactments.

Other items are an officer’s bugle, a sword, and paintings of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

Kindig recently authored his first book. It is titled “Courage and Devotion.”

It is a history of Bankhead’s/Scott’s Tennessee Battery in the American Civil War.

He also built a model of a battlefield in his basement.

Bruce Kindig will have a book signing on July 20th at 1pm at Barnes and Noble in Davenport.

He spent nine months writing the book.

During one trip, he visited more than thirty Civil War battlefields.
