Decision 2014 and campaigning is well underway. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was in Davenport Thursday to rally support and he brought along a high profile visitor. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was campaigning for Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds.

Christie was the topic of an NBC poll here in Iowa. The poll found a number of Republican voters in Iowa dislike Chris Christie with 33% of Republicans polled say they view Christie negatively. That's while 50% have a positive view of the governor. The numbers against Christie are higher in Iowa than all the other GOP presidential prospects.

Iowa is a very important early-voting state for any presidential run. Whether or not that will be on Christie's agenda in 2016 still remains to be seen. As chairman of the Republican Governors Association he's traveling all over supporting Republican candidates for governor and reelecting incumbents like Branstad. Political experts we talked to say even while momentum is picking up for the 2014 races eyes are turning toward 2016.

"We're starting to see a number of national figures from both parties make appearances either here, the Quad Cities part of Iowa or other parts of Iowa, and a lot of this is the early lead in to that presidential race in 2016," said Dr. Christopher Whitt, Associate Professor of Political Science at Augustana College. "He wants to stay connected to Iowa, to New Hampshire, to those early states, so we'll see him stepping outside of New Jersey from time to time," he added.

"I love this county, this is the best big county in Iowa. We're glad to be here and we're glad to have Governor Chris Christie here," said Governor Branstad.

"When we get done on November 4th of 2014 we'll all turn our eyes toward 2016 and taking our country back. But first things first everybody," said Governor Christie.

Christie says between December and June he's been to 19 states and plans to visit 14 states between this month and next. Meanwhile, Governor Branstad and Lt. Governor Reynolds continue stumping across the state on their platform of "Building Iowa's Future."

Iowa Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Jack hatch paid a visit to Davenport Wednesday. He was on hand at the grand opening of the Iowa democratic party's new Davenport coordinated campaign office. Hatch spoke at the event saying he has what it takes to beat Branstad.
