Stepping up!

Stepping out!

That’s what is happening in Wapello. Students from Wapello High School’s FFA Program are running this weekend’s pro rodeo.

The PRCA Rodeo in Wapello is the only, student run rodeo in the United States.

The Wapello Fairgrounds is their outdoor classroom. The students, about sixty of them, put fencing and bleacher seating in place.

The students also used computers to design the ads both on the banners and in the rodeo programs.

They  contacted more than 250 businesses during the advertising phase of the project.

It is a terrific learning experience for the kids.

Student Morgan Irons visited several area businesses. Selling advertising, she says, brought her out of her shell. She used to be really shy.

Kimberlee Ewart says she is learning quite a bit about time management, meeting deadlines, and teamwork.

The students prepare all year for the biggest weekend in Wapello.

This year, they are hoping more than three thousand spectators will attend the rodeo.

It runs on Friday and Saturday nights, July 18th and 19th.

FFA Advisor Cole Rushing encourages his students to pick something and be great at it. He believes every student is great at something.

So Cowboy Up!

Roping, riding, and wrestling are coming to Wapello Fairgrounds.

A student success story!
