It’s Bix 36 for Joe and Linda Getz of Davenport.

Saturday’s race will be their 36th appearance in Davenport’s annual seven mile race. The Bix Seven.

The couple’s first Bix adventure was in 1979. They were among the 883 people who finished the race.

They have been hooked on the race ever since.

The Getz family schedules vacation and other activities around the last Saturday in July.

The race is a rare opportunity for people to run with the best distance runners in the world.

Joe and Linda have several medals, bib numbers, newspaper clippings, and dozens and dozens of race tee shirts.

Running legends Bill Rodgers and Joan Benoit Samuelson have autographed some of those tee shirts.

Joe’s best time was around 59 minutes in 1985.

Linda had her Bix best in 1981. It was about 69 minutes.

Back in 1979, the temperature on race day was 75 degrees with humidity at 64 percent. The race started at Second and Perry.

A section of the course had a brick surface.

Eight hundred eighty three people finished the race that year. Joe was 708th and Linda 875th.

Husband and wife gearing up for another Bix 7. Thirty six straight!

Among the thousands of runners who will tackle the Brady Street Hill.
