2014 BIX 7 Race

Posted: Updated:
The Bix 7 is a tradition for area families and world class runners every year.  Many runners and walkers challenge themselves on this course. While some are participating for the first time, others say they haven't missed a year on the course or the sidelines. They say it's as much about the race as it is the atmosphere and being a part of something this big.

"I did the quick Bix last year and this year. The other times I've run or limped the Bix," said Jamie Snyder, who is a Bix 7 participant. "It's just fun. I do it with a group of people usually. This year I'm by myself. It's fun and its something to prepare for as well as help give you goals to keep in shape."

Some participants say staying in shape seemed to be at least why some of you participated.

"I ran a 2 mile in July. I got second in my age division in Minnesota and then I thought, maybe I can do this," Laurel Fosburgh, a first-time Bix 7 runner said.

The Bix 7 is a race that attracts both runners and spectators from all across the world.

"We came from China, but we're originally from Oregon," David Ryan, who was a spectator watching the race said.

Runners say the music gave them the extra push to continue going. That's why volunteer musician Jim Ryan says he's played here for the last 15 years.

"It really helps runners. It gives them energy to get through the course. When they go by, they always stop and say thanks to show their appreciation," Ryan said.

"It's very important to support people that do  this. Not just my family, but people who have had struggles. This is a big accomplishment for them," said spectator Tiffany
