Update:  The boil order has been partially lifted.  There is still a boil order for those living on 8th Avenue from 38th to 39th Street and from 7th to 8th Avenue.  There's more work to do on the water main for that area.

7/29/2014:
 The City of Rock Island has issued a Boil Advisory for parts of the city.

The advisory is effective immediately for Rock Island water customers from 31st to 39th Street, 6th to 12th Avenue and 44th to 46th Street, 7th to 15th Avenue.

Officials say the boil advisory is due to a due to a main break on a hydrant lateral.

All water used for drinking and cooking should be boiled until further notice.

Pressure to the system has been restored and city crews continue to make repairs.

Officials say the boil advisory is expected to be lifted in 24 hours and that this is just a precaution.

They say there are no indications the water is unsafe for consumption.
