Car Crashes Into Moline Apartment

Inside view of apartment. Inside view of apartment.

It was a very close call tonight for one family celebrating a newborn in their home. A car ended up in the kitchen.

The Moline housing authority has already boarded up the side of this duplex.

Here's what happened: another resident came home and was parking her car when she accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake. The car went into the apartment up to the windshield.

The wall is cracked, the window is coming in and they've installed a brace for the ceiling. Five people were inside including a three-day-old newborn. They were in the living room when the car came crashing in.

No one was hurt, not even the driver. The family living here will be spending the night at a hotel. They'll be working with the housing authority to get a new apartment tomorrow.

The housing authority director estimated fixing this home will cost between 200 and 300 thousand dollars. To prevent this from happening again, he is going to raise barriers in parking lots near homes.
