New Exhibit at German American Heritage Center Showcases History Behind the Berlin Wall

Posted: Updated:
DAVENPORT -- 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, that history is coming to life in the Quad-Cities.

Visitors to the German American Heritage Center in Davenport spent their day Sunday learning about the Berlin Wall's past at the premiere of the new exhibit "Berlin: Divided Past, United Future." It includes pieces of history from over the past three decades, including personal stories.

Speakers were there talking about the events that led up to the tearing down of the wall, and organizers say it's an important part of history.

"We really focused in on it rather than just, a lot of the past events of Germany, assistant director of the German American Heritage Center Kelly Lao said. "This is is something that a lot of people have lived through and experienced and remember in their lifetime."

The exhibit is open through November 3 at the German American Heritage Center.
