PV Board Won't Appeal State Decision On Track Team

Posted: Updated:

The Pleasant Valley School Board voted not to appeal a state decision, stripping the Pleasant Valley Girls' track team of it's Class 4A state title.

It happened last month when it was discovered a member of the team competed in at least three collegiate events against college athletes which is a violation of Iowa code.

School district officials told us there was no question the athlete was aware of all eligibility requirements but the decision not to appeal has at least one parent at the meeting disappointed.

"I felt there could have been some discussion about this. And the rules need to be revisited as well. And was it a reasonable or just thing, to effect the entire school district, the reputation of the program, and the kids and coaches," parent Kevin Swanson said.

The Iowa Girls' High School Athletic union board took the title from Pleasant Valley after deeming runner Kaley Ciluffo ineligible.
