Big names in politics continue to visit the QCA, with Texas governor Rick Perry stopping in Grand Mound, IA, and then Eldridge, IA, where he headlined a campaign fundraiser for Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

She is running against incumbent Dave Loebsack for Iowa's 2nd congressional district seat.

At the event, more than 100 people showed their support for both Miller-Meeks and Gov. Perry, who says, while he has thought about running for president in 2016, he'll make that decision next year.

"I came up here two and a half years ago, and I made a lot of friends, and so they've asked me to come back, and to help, and short-term, that's what I'm going to do," he said. "Longer term, we'll let 2016 take care of itself."

Political analyst Dr. Christopher Whitt says being in Iowa is part of Gov. Perry's plan to run for president.

"He has multiple reasons for being here," he said. "Not just supporting candidates, but also supporting a political agenda as well as his own personal political agenda."

Dr. Whitt says events like these are a platform for Gov. Perry to keep getting his name out in Iowa, without saying directly that he's running.

"I have given it thought, and we'll make a decision next year sometime," Gov. Perry said.

Dr. Whitt says the strategy is a trend with the other potential candidates as well.

"Hillary Clinton hasn't said it outright," he said. "Rand Paul hasn't said it outright. Chris Christie hasn't. None of those people. This is the way that the presidential political game is played."

Until then, he says Iowa will be seeing a lot more of Gov. Perry, and other national political figures, especially after the midterm elections, and even before the formal debates and campaigns begin.

Speaker John Boehner is set to be in Colona, IL on Monday, August 10, 2014 at the Lavender Crest Winery at 11:30 AM.

He's headlining a fundraiser for Bobby Schilling, who is running for Illinois' 17th congressional district.
