MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - A Moline man is in custody on a first-degree murder charge after an apparent fatal stabbing Tuesday night in Moline.

Moline officers responded to a report of an unknown problem in the 400 block of 17th Avenue, according to a media release.

Officers found the suspect, Xavier Camper, 20, covered in blood near 5th Street and 17th Avenue.

The investigation took police to a home in the 400 block of 17th Avenue and found Kerry A. Dyer, 53, of Moline. Officers tried to render aid to him, but Dyer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said Wednesday that preliminary autopsy results show Dyer died from “multiple traumatic stab wounds.”

Camper is in the Rock Island County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Police say there are no additional suspects at this time and there is no threat to the public.

The investigation is still ongoing.
