Coroner identifies 16-year-old fatally shot in Rock Island Tuesday night

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The Rock Island County Coroner’s Office has identified a 16-year-old who was fatally shot in Rock Island Tuesday night.

Coroner Brian Gustafson said Dylan J. McCalester of Sherrard was pronounced dead at Trinity-Rock Island. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest, Gustafson said.

Rock Island officers responded at 6:52 p.m. to the 600 block of 42nd Avenue for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

Police said in the release McCalester, the driver of one of the vehicles, was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said the death is being investigated as a homicide.

No other information was released. The investigation is ongoing between the coroner’s office and the police department’s criminal investigation division.
