DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Mediapolis senior Regan Thornburg is easy to coach.

“It’s just his attitude towards everything” said Mediapolis basketball coach Greg Worrall. “He always works hard. He always gives his best. He never complains”.

Five days ago Regan was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The next day he began chemotherapy with an encouraging prognosis.

“They said that this was probably one of the earliest times they’ve caught it and they said 95 percent success in four or five months so very optimistic” said Thornburg.

Cancer may be taking away his senior season of basketball, but it’s not shaking Regan’s spirit.

“He walked in my room today and he said hey what time is practice tonight” said Worrall. “His plan is to come to practice and be a student assistant and be a coach and give as much as he still can.

“Growing up I was always told life isn’t fair you’re gonna get thrown curveballs and this is for sure one of those times” said Thornburg.

Regan’s battle won’t be easy, but he won’t be fighting alone. With the entire Mediapolis community in his corner, Regan is determined to persevere.
