DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Davenport Public Works is reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets in a recent Facebook post.

On Tuesday, officials said while the snow is melting, the bacteria in dog waste does not go away by decomposition or by the cold.

“This can create a serious problem because dog poop contains parasites, viruses, and bacteria that are not destroyed by decomposition or the cold,” officials with Davenport Public Works said. “Pet waste that is not properly disposed of in the garbage can contribute to illness in pets and humans, degrade local water quality, and ruin a pair of shoes.”
