Kyle Kiel

Meteorologist, Reporter
Kyle Kiel

Kyle is a QC native and joined the KWQC-TV6 team in November 2021 as a feature reporter and meteorologist.

Kyle was born in North Carolina but raised here in the Quad Cities. After living in Colona and spending K-5th grade in the Geneseo School District, he spent most of his childhood in Moline and is a graduate of Moline High School.

After high school, Kyle attended Black Hawk College and received his Associate's Degree before transferring to Northern Illinois University. He received his Bachelor's in Meteorology with a minor in Geography.

His interest in weather began at a very young age after a meteorologist visited his school. He became fearful of weather after a tornado touched down near his school in third grade. That fear turned into a passion and he has been "hooked on weather" ever since.

In college, Kyle worked as a production assistant and intern at WQAD in Moline, and also interned at TV6's sister station WIFR in Rockford, Illinois. After college, he worked as a meteorologist and multimedia journalist at WHBF in Rock Island.

Prior to joining KWQC, Kyle worked for 6.5 years as a meteorologist at KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa. There, he covered countless tornado outbreaks, winter storms, record cold and was out in the field with the station's storm chasing vehicle during the historic August 2020 derecho.

Kyle is happy to be back home with his wife and two young children. The family also has two dogs and a guinea pig.
