FULTON, Ill. (KWQC) – Mark Nettles was on his way to work Wednesday morning when he saw a 7-foot long boa constrictor snake lying along the road near the Mississippi River.

When Nettles, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee, made the discovery near Lock and Dam 13, he loaded the creature into the bed of his truck and brought it to the proper authorities.

Boa constrictors are not native to this part of the country and the snake is believed to be a pet that someone discarded.

This is not the first spotting of the boa, as Logan Foster of Fulton reports having spotted it in the same area back in July.

The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge has placed the snake into a rescue home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
