Area ski resorts plan to open early

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWQC) - Area ski resorts are taking advantage of the early cold by opening early.

Sundown Mountain in Dubuque plans to open Friday. Nov.16 for the weekend. The ski area posted a video on Facebook of grooming some man-made snow.

Chestnut Mountain in nearby Galena is also making plans to open on Friday, Nov. 23rd.

With better snow-making equipment, the resorts can open without much help from Mother Nature. Chestnut Mountain says it has 70 snow guns. But you still need the cold.

Snowstar in Andalusia, Illinois is aiming for a target opening date of Dec. 7, depending on the weather.

Chestnut Mountain will close again between Nov. 26-29, with plans to reopen on Nov. 30, weather permitting.
