UPDATE: Woman and child hospitalized after crash in Muscatine

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KWQC) - UPDATE 11/8: A 31-year-old woman was injured after a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Muscatine.

Officials say they were called to the accident just after 5:30 on Highway 61 North around one quarter mile North of Mittman Road.

Upon arrival, police say 31-year-old Melinda Petersen, was trapped in her vehicle and was transported by helicopter to Iowa City due to her injuries. A child in the vehicle was also taken to Iowa City by ambulance.

The second driver involved was released at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Muscatine Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and the Muscatine Fire Department.

The Muscatine County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Transportation also assisted at the accident.

ORIGINAL 11/7: The Muscatine County Sheriff's Office said several emergency vehicles are responding to a crash at Mittman Road and Hwy.; 61 south of Muscatine.

It is unclear how many vehicles are involved or if anyone was hurt.
