Flooding impacts travel on Quad City roads

QUAD CITIES, Iowa (KWQC) - Flash flooding has gone down, but you may run into some problems getting around with several roads still under water.

Several intersections closed on River Drive in Davenport early Wednesday because of high water covering lanes of the road.

Storm sewers bubbled like fountains--full from the nearby flooded Mississippi River and from heavy rainfall. The worst location seemed to be between 4th Street and the Village of East Davenport.

A TV-6 viewer, Corey Wieckhorts, sent a remarkable photo of a train running along flooded track.

According to a post from the City of Davenport: Two new detours have been placed along River Dr.

The first detour is related to current and arriving river levels. All eastbound River Dr traffic from the west is being detoured at Division St to 3rd St, to Iowa, to 5th St. All westbound River Dr traffic from the east is being detoured at River Dr and 4th St, to 4th St. All arterial streets are closed at River Drive between Western and Marquette. The River's Edge can be accessed at Gaines or by taking Western into the Florian Keen Parking lot and across Gaines.

The second detour is related to sanitary sewer surcharge that has occurred near Mound St. This area of River Dr may be re-opened sometime tomorrow pending discovery of issues requiring immediate attention. We will release more information on this detour as it becomes available. This detour requires all westbound River Dr traffic east of Mound to be detoured north at River/11th St. All eastbound River Dr traffic will be detoured north at Mound.

With area rivers and streams still rising, Scott County has released a map of roads closed due to flooding on the Wapsipincon River.
