Hazardous waste spill at Rock Island Arsenal

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The Rock Island Arsenal is investigating the cause of a hazardous waste spill at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center.

Officials believe a valve broke releasing the material. The spill was reported by the wastewater treatment plant operator and a hazardous materials team responded to stop the leak.

Officials say the release occurred in a containment area specifically designed for these type incidents. No one was hurt or exposed.

There's no word on the type of hazardous material or how it is used.
