Woman charged with murder after "best friend" is fatally stabbed in Rock Falls
Officials have arrested a woman after a man was fatally stabbed in Rock Falls.
Police say on Sunday, Dec. 15, just after 1:20 a.m., the Whiteside County 911 Center received a report of a stabbing. Officials say the report indicated the stabbing happened in the 22000 block of Brooks Road in rural Rock Falls.
Upon arrival, officers found a man dead on the front porch. The man has been identified as 53-year-old Tracy A. Russell, of Rock Falls.
Whiteside County detectives along with Illinois State Police investigators and the Whiteside County Coroner's Office began an investigation into Russell's death and determined it was a homicide.
The home on Brooks Road was processed by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Division. Within the first 15 hours, officials with the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office found a man and woman as people of interest int he investigation.
An autopsy was done on Monday, Dec. 16 and it was determined Russell died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
On Tuesday, Dec. 17, 45-year-old Nichole E. Elsesser, of Rock Falls, was charged with 1st-degree and 2nd-degree murder. According to officials with the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, Elsesser said she and Russell were "best friends".
Elsesser is being held at the Whiteside County Jail and will have a first appearance on Tuesday.
Russel's homicide investigation was conducted by the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office with assistance by Sterling Police Department, Rock Falls Police Department, the Illinois State Police, Whiteside County Coroner's Office and the Whiteside County State's Attorney Terry Costello.
