Illinois DNR warns landowners about higher timber market

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (KWQC) - If you own woodland, the State of Illinois says you may be sitting on a gold mine. Officials with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources say the market price for hardwood logs and lumber is higher and unaware sellers often get cents on the dollar.

DNR foresters want landowners to do some homework and exercise caution before agreeing to any timber offer.

The DNR is offering a free hotline to call forest management experts who can offer advice on the market and how to proceed when selling timber. The hotline number is 1-888-244-1706.
