Illinois State Police conducting special traffic enforcement

Macomb, Ill (KWQC) - The Illinois State Police (ISP) District 14 Commander, Captain Jon Dively has announced the ISP will conduct Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (sTEP) in Fulton County during the month of November. This is part of the 'Click it or Ticket' campaign.

This allows the ISP to focus on four fatal violations that mostly contribute to the traffic crashes and fatalities: Driving under the influence, Safety belt and child restraint use, Speeding and Distracted driving.

The ISP will increase daytime and nighttime patrols to ensure safety through enforcement of all traffic safety laws.

Impaired driving is a factor in more than 30% of traffic deaths in Illinois, likewise, speeding is a factor in nearly 35% of fatal crashes and nearly 50% of vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were known to not be wearing a seatbelt.

This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
