AMES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Department of Transporation says it's working to clear of I-35 between Ames and the Minnesota border.
That portion of the interstate remains closed.
The Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa State Patrol initially closed the highway at around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Blowing snow, drifts over the roadway, whiteout conditions, and vehicles continuing to go in the ditch were factors in the decision to shut down the highway.
On Twitter, DOT officials said they're working to get the road back open, but it's a very dangerous situation.
PLEASE - we're working to get I-35 open, but we could really use your help. DO NOT try to get on I-35 this morning. It's a very dangerous situation. https://t.co/tTYzhWQQb7— Iowa DOT (@iowadot) February 25, 2019
