DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — Update: This year 87,420 pounds of paper were recycled. It saved 743 trees, 131 cubic yards of landfill and 305,970 Gallons of water.
Original: The 2018 KWQC Secure Shred Event is scheduled for Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.
The free event will run from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is intended for individuals - Sorry, no businesses! - to dispose of their personal financial and sensitive documents. Please try to limit the number of bags or boxes of paper to four.
Enter the fairgrounds at gate five off W. Locust Street in Davenport.
"There are two shafts of rotating knives that utilize the pierce and tear method. It's very random, so it's impossible to recreate it," explained local Shred-It Facility Manager Chris Bennett.
The shredded paper will be recycled. Last year, we collected a record 85,000 pounds of paper.
