Nathan Woodring charged with murder following death of Deputy Troy Chisum

AVON, Ill. (KWQC) - UPDATE 2:34 p.m.: TV6's NBC affiliate, WEEK, is reporting that 42-year-old Nathan Woodring is being charged with 1st-degree Murder in connection with the death of Fulton County Deputy Troy Chisum. This charge carries a sentence of up to 60 years with no parole.

Woodring was taken into custody just before 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, after Deputy Chisum was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in rural Avon.

UPDATE 6/26 10:42 a.m.: A suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting Tuesday night in Avon.

Officials say 42-year-old Nathan Woodring, of Avon, was taken into custody Wednesday morning at 8:20. Officials with the Illinois State Police say while information is still very limited, Woodring will be taken to McDonough County Jail pending charges.

UPDATE 8:45 p.m. Police say a Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy was fatally injured in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 2 p.m., 39-year-old Deputy Troy Chisum responded to a battery and disturbance call in Avon, Ill. During the incident, multiple shots were fired, fatally injuring Deputy Chisum.

Deputy Chisum was a four and a half year veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. Chisum was a paramedic with the Fulton County EMA and was a member of the West Central Special Response Team and the ILEAS WMD/SRT Team for Region 6.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office released a statement, saying, "I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Chisum. Deputy Chisum dedicated his life to the service of his community. His legacy and sacrifice will forever be remembered."

UPDATE 5:09 p.m.: At 2 p.m., officials with the Illinois State Police responded to a battery and disturbance call in Avon, Illinois. They were called there to the incident which involved the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

Preliminary information shows a Fulton County Deputy was shot and injured.

Officials say the suspect involved is currently barricaded in rural Avon and multiple police departments are on scene to help assist.

Illinois State Police is leading the investigation.

No further information is available at this time.

ORIGINAL: Multiple law enforcement agencies are responding to a "highly active situation" in Avon, Illinois. This is according to our NBC affiliate, WEEK.

The Illinois State Police confirms with TV6 that a law enforcement officer was shot. The officer's condition is not known at this time.

At this time, officials with Illinois State Police tell TV6 that there is a police presence in the 5200 block of East Troy Road in Avon.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is asking all viewers in the area to avoid County 17 at this time in Avon.
