Southern Illinois veterans visit D.C. memorials

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) -- Tuesday, 85 veterans from the Southern Illinois region ,which includes parts of Missouri and Kentucky, traveled to the nation's capital to view several memorials.

Bryan Questelle, from the Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, said, “This is an important day for these veterans to have the emotion they need, see the memorials, relive if they need to and share that with family members and other veterans that are with us.”

The group was met at the World War II Memorial by Congressman Mike Bost (R-IL).

World War II veteran Jack Tripp said of the flight, "I think it’s a good thing, really a good deal.”

Tripp was approached by people at the WWII Memorial who shook his hand and expressed their gratitude.

Tripp was one of ten WWII veterans on the honor flight.

The honor flight is scheduled to return to Marion, Illinois Tuesday evening.
