Man rescued by Rock Island Fire Dept. after trying to travel to Kentucky on a log

QUAD CITIES (KWQC) - A man was pulled from the Mississippi River on Monday, Sept. 23, after officials say he was seen holding onto a log around 1:30 p.m. Officials with the Rock Island Fire Department say he got in willingly and was trying to travel to Kentucky on the log.

Officials with the Rock Island Fire Department tell TV6 the man entered the water in Davenport and was then seen holding onto the log while on the river as he was floating towards a barge. He was then pulled from the river and into the rescue boat.

Officials say he was rescued and that he did not have any injuries. Officials say they also strongly encouraged the man to make other transportation arrangements if they were wanting to go to Kentucky.
