Mid City High School on lockdown after a student is found with a weapon

DAVENPORT, Ia (KWQC) - UPDATE 3:25 p.m.: A Davenport Police Department School Resource Officer reportedly was investigating the smell of burnt marijuana at Mid City High School when the officer stopped two students to investigate.

The press release from the Davenport Police Department states one student fled the school on foot, while the second juvenile was detained.

It was reported that additional officers responded to assist in locating the fleeing juvenile. Officers checked the areas where the juveniles were within the school and located a handgun.

It was reported that the school was placed on lock-down while officers and staff investigated and secured the area.

One 16-year-old male was charged with Interference with Official Acts. Charges are pending on the Juvenile who ran from the scene.

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: According to a Davenport School District spokeswoman, a security guard found a weapon in a bathroom during an investigation by the Mid City High Administration.

The suspected student reportedly ran from the building and a lockdown was put into place.

This incident remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL: Davenport Police were called to Mid City High School Monday afternoon after receiving a 911 call from the school.

According to a Davenport School District spokeswoman, there was a report of a student with a weapon and the student is now in police custody. No word on what the weapon was.

No one is being allowed in or out of the school as a precaution, as police continue to investigate.
