Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center sees drop in blood donations due to weather

(KWQC) - UPDATE 2/8: The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has extended its operating hours at their two donor centers in Davenport. The extended hours will be for Friday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, Feb. 9.

Davenport HQ Donor Center (5500 Lakeview Pkwy.)
Open Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

West Davenport Donor Center (1320 W. Kimberly Rd.)
Open Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Moline Donor Center (3600 16th St.)
Open during normal hours Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

ORIGINAL: According to officials with the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, they have had a combined total of 68 canceled blood drives due to the weather (1,724 donations).

Officials say over the last three weeks, the weather-related cancellations exceed 2,220 donations. Officials say they've lost more than 500 donations due to appointment cancellations.

"To help recoup some of these losses, the Blood Center will extend additional hours at certain Donor Centers on Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9," officials say.

That includes the location in West Davenport, Burlington, and. Galesburg. Hours are as follows:

West Davenport Donor Center:
Friday, Feb. 8 - 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 9 - 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Burlington, Iowa Donor Center:
Friday, Feb. 8 - 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 9 - 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Galesburg, Illinois Donor Center:
Friday. Feb. 8 - 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center officials urge that all those who can travel safely to a donor center, donate blood.
