Moline police investigate officer-involved shooting, suspect hospitalized

MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - UPDATE 6/22/18: The man shot by Moline Police Friday, June 22, 2018, has been identified.

Steven Wilson of Moline, Illinois was shot by Moline Police, according to Rock Island County Integrity Task Force PIO Lt. Darren Gault.

Gualt briefed the media Monday afternoon. He said Wilson remains in a Peoria hospital at this time and as of Monday was in stable condition.

Newly released information placed police in the area for a burglary call at Allstate Insurance located at 3311 Avenue of the Cities. Police were told by a witness the suspect fled westbound down an alley. As police were searching for that suspect, Wilson exited a North building and exchanged gunfire with police.

Lt. Gualt confirmed Wilson lives nearby the crime scene. He could not release how many officers from Moline are on paid administrative leave as a result of the incident. At this time, police have not filed charges against Wilson as the suspected burglar in the initial incident police were called to.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting is expected to take several weeks. The Rock Island County Integrity Task Force will hand the case over to the State's Attorney Office once it is completed. They will decided whether or not to file any charges.

UPDATE 3:50 P.M.: Moline police held a news briefing Friday, June 22, 2018, and said the suspect is a 26-year-old man from Moline. The man's name has not been released, but he has been transported to OSF Healthcare in Peoria for more advanced treatment. At last check, he was in critical condition.
Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

Investigators are conducting witness interviews, collecting evidence, reviewing video, reviewing radio traffic, reviewing 911 call, but Moline police officers do not have body cams.

The States Attorney's Office will make decisions regarding any criminal charges.
UPDATE 5:31 a.m.:During a press conference, Moline Police have released more information regarding an early morning shooting in Moline.

Officers say they responded to the 3300 block of Avenue of the Cities just after 12:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, the suspect was located and police say they ran westbound from the scene.

The suspect and officers exchanged gunfire and the suspect was injured. Police do not have an update on the suspect's condition at this time but have said they have undergone surgery.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Rock Island County Integrity Task Force was called in and all further information will be released by Lt. Gault of Integrity Task Force.

Moline Police and Integrity Task Force will be on scene for the next several hours as the crime scene is processed and we ask for the public’s assistance in staying away from the area so Integrity Task Force and Crime Scene can complete their investigation.

The area the crime scene that will be blocked off will be the Avenue of the Cities, north alley way from 34th Street to 31st Street.

UPDATE 4:59 a.m.: Moline police have just released they are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

No other information is available at this time. Police will be briefing the media shortly and we will update this as soon as more information becomes available.

According to police, they are on scene right now dealing with an incident in the 3100 block of Avenue of the Cities.
