MOLINE, Il (KWQC) - The city of Moline will have a new interim police chief while they search for a new one.
In a press release from the city administrator, it says due to vacancies in the police department, the current Interim Chief Lt. Dave Gass is needed to return to his regular duties. He has served in the position since September 8th.
The search for a new police chief is expected to take into the new year and city leaders felt they needed an experienced interim chief to lead the department until a replacement is found.
The city administrator says with the help of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, he was able to review the qualifications of several qualified candidates.
With pending approval from the city council next week, Robert T. Finney of Champaign, Illinois will be the interim police chief and would start on November 19th.
Until that happens, Gass will continue as acting chief until Finney starts.
