UPDATE: Woman in stable condition after being rescued from fire in Muscatine

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KWQC) - UPDATE: A Muscatine woman is in stable condition after she was rescued from a smoke-filled apartment late Thursday night.

Officials say one person has been injured after a fire in Muscatine, Iowa.

Officials say just before midnight on Thursday they received a 911 call regarding a kitchen fire at a multi-unit apartment building in Apartment B at 403 West 3rd Street with a person trapped and yelling for help. Upon arrival, crews could see fire through the 2nd-story window towards the back of the building.

Crews initiated an attack and were able to have it "knocked down" within 13 minutes. They then searched the building to make sure the fire was put out.

A minor injury was reported to the occupant of the apartment and they were taken to the hospital. Their condition has been listed as stable.

Initial reports say the fire began in the kitchen of the apartment and smoke detectors were present and were activated. Fire and smoke loss estimate is around $7,500 with about $2,500 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents inside.

The apartment that caught fire has fire damage and other apartments have limited water and smoke damage.

The Muscatine Fire Department was assisted by the Muscatine Police Department.
