UPDATE: Two people killed in rural Monmouth plane crash
UPDATE: The Warren County Coroner's office have identified the plane crash victims as Robert V. Burkhart, 65, of Peoria, IL and Roger D. Lundeen, 72, of Galesburg, Il . Both individuals were pronounced dead at 11:35 am at the scene by Warren County Coroner, Al McGuire. Investigating the accident were the Warren County Sheriffs Department, the Illinois State Police, Warren County Coroner, FAA and the NTSB.
The coroner's office says both died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
UPDATE: Two people are dead after a Sunday morning plane crash near Monmouth, Illinois.
The Warren County Sheriff, Martin Edwards, says two people were on board the plane when ti crashed around 11:10 a.m.
Witnesses told first responders the plane crashed in a brush area about a half of a mile northeast of the Monmouth Airport.
Crews found a burning aircraft and worked to put out the flames.
Two people were inside and were declared dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner. No one on the ground was injured.
The FAA is now investigating, the names of the people on board have not been released.
Sheriff Edwards says the plane is believed to be a private plane.
Alexis Fire, Alexis Ambulance, Warrent Central Fire District, Monmouth Fire Department, Monmouth Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police all helped with the crash.
