WEST BRANCH, Iowa (KWQC) – UPDATE 3-1-18: According to the West Branch Police, a suspect was identified. They also said there appeared to be no indication that the threat was going to be carried out. Officials also said the suspect is a minor and the charge of Disorderly Conduct was forwarded to juvenile court.
UPDATE 2-28-18: The West Branch police chief says with the help of the staff at West Branch School District and students they have identified a suspect. The suspect is a student and a minor. The chief goes on to say there were no indications that the threat was going to be carried out. Police are conducting additional interviews and will have evidence processed. The FBI has been brought in to assist. No more details are being released at this time.
UPDATE: Supt. Kevin Hatfield sent this statement to TV-6:

Facts: Near the end of the day Tuesday, a threatening message indicard that the potential of harm to students and staff could take place on Weds.
The message was found and reported to staff by WBHS students. We have great students and a wonderful staff. The WBCSD is working closely with the WB Police. The safety of our students and staff is paramount. The inappropriate communication did not designate which building, therefore all buildings are closed today as a precaution.
I will provide additional Information at the conclusion of our investigation. Our buildings will be secured today and additional safety measure will be in place with the intent to beginning school again on Thursday, March 1.
Again, because we are committed to putting students first, we felt it was important to take these precautions. We thank the West Branch Police Department for their ongoing support.

ORIGINAL: West Branch Community School District is closed Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Police say they were notified by the district about a threating message found in one of the school buildings Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The West Branch Police Department says it is working with the distinction on this investigation.
The district posted a closing on KWQC’s website for Wednesday citing safety and security precautions.
