DAVENPORT, Ia. (KWQC) - The official start of winter is more than a month away, but experts are urging drivers to be prepared. Driving on icy roads can be dangerous and lead to hazards on the roadways. Bill Palos, Store Manager at Firestone Complete Auto Care, said cars work overtime during the winter months.
"I think people don't keep in mind that the car is going to work the hardest for you during the winter, it's going to have to work the hardest on the car, the winter road conditions are tough on the tires," Palos said. "It's imperative that people look at these things prior into winter and make sure that when people get to winter those things are taken care of."
Palos is urging drivers to check their engines and make sure their tires are inflated. During inclement weather it's important to keep plenty of distance between yourself and the car in front of you. Officials also advise keeping a few items in your car, in case of an emergency. Experts said keeping a flashlight, blanket, tire sealant and first aid kit in your trunk is crucial.
