Blue Grass teen wins state award for volunteer work with veterans

DES MOINES, Iowa (KWQC) - A Blue Grass teen will be rewarded for her volunteer work with veterans.

The Iowa Daughters of the American Revolution will award its Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award on Friday to 16-year-old Abigail Johnson from Blue Grass.

The award is presented to a youth between the ages of 14-21 in recognition of outstanding or unusual care given to veterans. The candidate for the award also serves as a role model for peers and consistently demonstrates the qualities of leadership.

The DAR said Abigail serves veterans through hundreds of hours of yearly community service and created the nonprofit Veterans Tech Support that provides technology education and assistance for veterans and their families.
