2 recent Davenport Central grads named Beat the Elite runners at Bix 7

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The two Quad-Cities Beat the Elite runners for the Bix 7 will be leaving town about a month after the race.

Dylan Moeller and Carter Richter are recent Davenport Central High School graduates who will soon leave for college.

The Beat the Elite runners get a head start ahead of the field of professional racers.

If Moeller and Richter “beat the elites,” they’ll win $2,500 each.

Moeller said she’ll give the money to Central’s girls’ cross-country team. She’s headed for North Central College in Naperville.

“It’s really cool because like, I’ve seen these runners throughout my life and I just didn’t think it would ever be me,” Moeller said.

Richter said he’ll donate $500 to Project Renewal, which he said helps pay for scholarships for swim lessons through the Davenport Parks and Recreation swim lesson program, where he works as a lifeguard.

He’ll save the rest of the award for the University of Dubque, where he’s going this fall.

“I’m just so honored that I was able to be chosen,” Richter said. “It was kind of out of the blue that I got selected, and so I think it’s just an amazing opportunity.”
