Mother-daughter duo make every Friday ‘good’ by giving back
‘Clothed with Love’ provides free food, clothing and hot meals every Friday
(InvestigateTV) — A Michigan woman and her mom made giving back a part of their weekly routine, bringing hope to their community through a simple but powerful mission.
If it’s Friday at noon, the welcome mat is out at Bread House South Church on MLK Boulevard in Lansing. For two hours every Friday, from noon to 2 p.m., this small church becomes a sanctuary for those in need.
“The food pantry and clothing closet is called Clothed With Love,” said Cheril Glasslee, the program’s founder.
Cheril Glasslee and her mom Eva Sampson saw a need in the neighborhood six years ago and decided to fill it.
“I personally have a passion for people in need, so I went to the pastor and asked him if we could do a clothing closet, and he says let’s do it,” Glasslee said.
Eighty-five-year-old Eva serves as her daughter’s right hand.
“She just needed me, and we’re partners in crime,” Sampson said.
Their only offense is turning their church into a sanctuary of hope.
“We started in one little room in the back, grew and needed two rooms,” Glasslee said. “This room houses men’s clothes, boys’ clothes. And then we grew again.”
The operation has expanded throughout the church building, with clothes filling multiple rooms and overflow areas.
“And now we’re in this room and the room next door,” Glasslee said. “We do. That’s overflow there.”
They even use the sanctuary for sorting donations.
“This is our sanctuary. This is where we do all our sorting,” Glasslee said.
The people who come to Clothed With Love are able to leave with a bag full of clothes, a box full of food and a hot lunch to go.
