Special Olympics coach Connie Allen wins Hometown Hero Award

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - KWQC and SERVPRO surprised Connie Allen with the Hometown Hero Award in appreciation of her service to Special Olympians in the Quad Cities.

“They’re my family. Ever since my husband passed away, they’ve been everything to me” said Allen who was inspired to support Special Olympics 32 years ago as a teacher.

“Four little boys in my class who didn’t get to play dodgeball in a gym class. I thought they would get to play everything that everyone else was and I walked into that gym and they were sitting on a bench and the PE teacher said they couldn’t handle it. It was just dodgeball so I immediately went to the principal’s office and said this is not gonna cut it” said Allen.
