MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - Four people escaped a house fire early Tuesday morning after being woken up by a family dog.

The home in the 900 block of 16th Street had no working smoke alarms at the time of the fire, according to a news release.

“I didn’t realize how many fires there were until I started working here.” Curtis Rosenberg of Blaze Restoration said. “You always want to make sure you have your smoke alarms charged and batteries charged up in case a fire does happen so you can get out and get out safely.”

Now, officials are taking this opportunity to continue educating people about fire safety and why smoke alarms are so important.

“They basically save your life — I mean, that’s the biggest thing I could tell you is fire alarms save your life,” said Rosenberg. “As soon as smoke hits it you can wake up. Other than that, that is the biggest thing — you gotta have them on.”

Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the home. They were able to rescue the dog and put out the fire in 30 minutes.

The home was significantly damaged and the front porch had to be demolished. Officials said no one was hurt.
