Cyclospora cases rise across Iowa
Health officials urge residents to wash produce, avoid recalled foods
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The number of Cyclospora cases continue to climb across Iowa, with health officials now reporting more than 200 confirmed infections across 48 counties.
Officials are reminding residents to watch for symptoms and follow safe food handling practices.
“Cyclosporiasis is not uncommon for us to see cases throughout the year, and so with that, follow up with your healthcare provider if you’re having diarrhea, certainly not eating those foods that are on the recall, and practicing safe food practices,” Lashon Moore, Clinical Services Manager at the Scott County Health Department, said.
Moore said people can help prevent the illness from spreading by washing produce, avoiding recalled foods, and contacting a healthcare provider if symptoms develop.
